Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Norris, who seized the points lead from his teammate by one point after taking the win in Mexico City a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds. Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at 6:30 PM GMT. Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he lost control at the fourth corner during the early running. Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before spinning across the gravel trap, and was fortunate to avoid just a minor contact of the fence. Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner approaching the last turn on to the start-finish straight. Hamilton wrapped up in P19, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc. The McLaren pair were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's pace. Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
