This transaction estimates Mercedes at £4.6bn – a record for an F1 team – following the McLaren team was appraised at £3.5bn in a change of corporate structure in September. The Austrian executive, who holds one-third of Mercedes F1, plans to divest a shareholding approximately five percent. The 53-year-old would stay on as team principal and chief executive officer if the sale goes through. Shareholder Breakdown Remaining partners in Mercedes F1 are Mercedes and chemicals giant Ineos Group, who both hold one-third of the enterprise. An official representative stated: "We are providing no comment on this. The management structure of the team will remain unaltered, and each shareholder are dedicated to the ongoing success of Mercedes-Benz in F1." Valuation Increase The deal would represent a significant increase in worth of Mercedes F1 since Ineos Group acquired its share for £208m in 2022. The rise reflects the growth in market values of F1 teams recently as a consequence of the growing popularity of the sport globally. This trend was evident with the success of the Formula 1 film starring Brad Pitt, which debuted last summer and has grossed over $630m (£458 million) at cinemas worldwide. The film represents Pitt's most successful film and the most successful sports movie ever released. Current Standings The Mercedes team are runner-up in the constructors' championship, behind McLaren Racing, with three Grands Prix remaining in the current championship. Mercedes' primary racer British driver George Russell has secured victory in 2 of the 21 races so far and is fourth in the drivers' championship after McLaren's Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull's Max Verstappen. Mercedes secured a unprecedented eight straight constructors' championships and seven driver championships, six won by Lewis Hamilton and one by Nico Rosberg, between 2014 and 2021.
